Squarespace vs WordPress, which is the better option.

Below is a quick look at how the two platforms compare so you can understand why I recommend using Squarespace. This is the go-to platform for high-quality, stunning designs, which help your site to stand out from the crowd. As a business owner keeping an eye on your costs is really important, so having a website you can dive into on the fly and make changes is really important. We are not all tech savvy and don’t need to be. This gives you more time to focus on the things you are good at.

The ease of use.

Squarespace >
A very user-friendly, drag-and- drop website builder. That been said you still need to be a designer to make it look great, but you can log into the back end and make any new edits or if you feel more comfortable add new section’s once your site is up and running.

Wordpress > This is a steeper learning curve. The back end is not user friendly if you are not tech savvy. Wordpress needs coding skills so you will always need Steep learning curve, especially if you are a beginner. Unless you are comfortable with this you will need to hire someone who is.

How does the design compare

Squarespace > Offers you Stunning, customizable designer templates built with great user experience in mind. It’s like comparing the user experience to “Mac’ vs “PC’, they have gone to a lot of trouble to make you feel welcome and less intimidated when using there site.

Wordpress > A lot of choice when it comes to templates but they do need to be customized you’ll need to have coding skills to reap the full benefits.

Wanting to start an Ecommerce site?

Squarespace > Built-in sales features, including great inventory size, but slightly lacking in apps and payment options. A good looking showcase for your products  .

Wordpress > Difficult to navigate and lacking in customer support. You would be better you use an e-commerce site like ‘Shopify’.

Want to write a Blog?

Squarespace > You have a good selection of blogging templates and tools to get you started, but not developed to be the go to site for bloggers.

Wordpress > This is the winner for blogging. A wide choice of plugins and built-in features. It has a large community of bloggers, and lets you leave comments on other WordPress blogs.

Ongoing maintenance

Squarespace > You really need to do very little if nothing – Squarespace is a “closed” environment, meaning they control all aspects of the platform and manage all the updates and maintenance work for you.

Wordpress > You will need continuing maintenance, especially if the platform, theme or plugins are updated by their developers. You are responsible for maintaining all aspects of your website. So if you are not comfortable with this and it can get really confusing, if ignored can cause your site to stop working. You may have ongoing costs and late night phone calls!

Which is more secure?

Squarespace > Security and updates are managed for you and part of the service. If there is a security issue, Squarespace’s experts will deal with it. This gives you ongoing peace of mind.

Wordpress > The security of your website is your responsibility.

Help and Support when you need it.

Squarespace > Dedicated support team with organized tutorials. You can also get help through live chat or email.

Wordpress > Has a bigger community with lots of resources and tutorials, but you will have to search for it.  Most users end up paying developers for help.
