Legendary English rock guitarist who rose to prominence as a member of the rock band the Yardbirds, dies aged 78.

Jeff was studied at Wimbledon College of Art.

“With the death of Jeff Beck we have lost a wonderful man and one of the greatest guitar players in the world,” Mick Jagger wrote. “We will all miss him so much.”

Led Zeppelin's Robert Plant said the musician's "gift was enormous", recalling his "limitless energy and enthusiasm".

"He took his place side by side with the virtuosos of the period, his mates," the singer added.

Sir Rod Stewart, who sang with the guitarist in the Jeff Beck Group, simply called him "the greatest".

I have been playing the above song on repeat all day. (The instrumental backing is provided by The Jeff Beck Group)

“Barabajagal (Love Is Hot)” is a funky, fast-paced rocker featuring the Jeff Beck Group. From Beck’s opening guitar licks to Donovan’s nonsense lyrics (“Goo goo, goo goo barabajagal was his name now”), “Barabajagal (Love Is Hot)” is one outtasight slice of hippie pie.

In his autobiography, Donovan relates how Jeff Beck's guitar had not been delivered to the studio, so they had to borrow one for him to play on the track (at Beck's request, it was a Fender, his preferred instrument).

This post is part of a personal project ‘A Year of Music’. The more and more I read about musicians I find so many started their early careers studying art. Music allows people to channel their complex feelings and unleash their creativity.
